august 2025 - the final farewel: letter from the president

Dear TechRochester Community,

My term as your President draws to a close this September, and so I write to you with deep gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead. Greg Kauffman will step into the role of President on September 10, and I couldn't be more confident in this transition.

Serving as your President has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. For 25 years, TechRochester has been a cornerstone of innovation and collaboration in our region, and I'm incredibly proud to have been part of carrying on that legacy.

My ability to lead TechRochester was not one that I could do without the support of so many people around me. Therefore, as I write this last President’s message to our community, I want to take this opportunity to thank those that stood by me during my tenure in this organization, particularly in my role as President these last two years.

To KLDiscovery: Your unwavering support has made my leadership possible. Since 2018, my employer KLDiscovery has not only championed my involvement but has remained a steadfast TechRochester Partner, consistently investing in our region's innovation and business growth. True leadership requires organizational backing, and KLD has provided that in abundance.

To my predecessor Judy Miller: Thank you for being a trusted advisor. You have been a true friend who supported me from the sidelines, and I am grateful for your guidance.

To Kaila DiTucci: Your tireless work over the past two years has transformed how TechRochester connects with our community. The new website, platform consolidation, our newsletter, operational efficiencies you've implemented, and so much more…… have positioned us for continued success. You are behind-the-scenes in the organization, but your contributions have made a lasting impact on our entire community. Keep up the great work!

To our exceptional TechRochester Board of Directors: You are the heart and soul of this organization. Working alongside each of you to advance TechRochester's mission and vision has been both an honor and a privilege. Your dedication, insights, and collaborative spirit have been the driving force behind our achievements. This is a 100% volunteer association, and you constantly show up to advance our mission and vision because you share my passion for technology and growth in Rochester. Thank you for the support and guidance you have given me over the years. We have accomplished so much together!

To our incredible TechRochester Member Community: My favorite part of my Presidency was being able to interact with so many of you. Whether over coffee or drinks, breakfast or lunch; meeting you at one of our TR events, or you inviting me to yours, it has been a privilege getting to know so many of you. Your engagement, curiosity, and willingness to share knowledge has created the vibrant ecosystem that makes TechRochester special. Whether attending events, participating in discussions, mentoring rising stars, or simply being part of our community, you've made every initiative worthwhile. Watching professionals connect, collaborate, and grow together, has been the most rewarding aspect of my presidency. Your passion for technology and commitment to lifting each other up embodies everything TechRochester stands for.

Finally, to my husband, Neil Kavanagh: Your fierce support and willingness to take on extra responsibilities at home allowed me to fully commit to this role. The countless evenings and weekends dedicated to TechRochester were made possible by your partnership, support, and understanding. You have been my biggest champion, and for that - I am eternally grateful. Thank you for believing in me.

As I reflect on TechRochester's remarkable 25-year journey, I'm struck by the enduring impact this organization has had on Rochester's technology landscape. For a quarter-century, TechRochester has been fostering innovation, building bridges between professionals, and nurturing the next generation of tech leaders. We have weathered many industry changes, adapted to new technologies, and consistently provided a space where ideas flourish and careers grow. This legacy isn't just about longevity—it's about the thousands of connections made, the countless learning opportunities provided, and the collective spirit that continues to drive our region's technological growth. Thank you to the many organizations who collaborated with us these past few years to grow this community. We are all stronger together.

I will still be at many upcoming TechRochester events, so please do not hesitate to come up to me and say “Hi!”

I pass the Presidential torch on to your next leader with immense pride in what we've accomplished together, and boundless optimism for TechRochester's future.

Greg Kauffman brings exceptional qualifications to the presidency. His three-year track record managing the TechRochester Agile Connect Rochester Conference demonstrates his event management expertise, while his experience at Paychex provides the business acumen needed for this next chapter. I have complete confidence in Greg's leadership, ability, and vision for TechRochester's continued growth. You are in good hands with Greg!

Thank you for the privilege of serving this remarkable community.

With gratitude and best wishes,

Susan Kavanagh
President, TechRochester
