Director of Marketing (Volunteer Board Role)

Role Overview

The Director of Marketing is responsible for elevating the visibility, engagement, and impact of TechRochester across the regional tech community. This role leads the organization’s marketing efforts with a focus on driving attendance, increasing membership, and strengthening brand awareness.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys both strategy and execution. The Director of Marketing will work closely with the Board and lead the Marketing Committee to bring campaigns and communications to life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the marketing strategy for TechRochester, aligning initiatives with organizational goals, events, and member growth.

  • Plan and execute marketing campaigns to promote events, programs, partnerships, and initiatives (e.g., GREAT Awards, Tech Woman of the Year).

  • Manage and grow TechRochester’s presence on LinkedIn, including posting, engagement, and audience growth.

  • Oversee website updates and content on Squarespace to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and strong user experience.

  • Create and edit visual and promotional assets using Canva.

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Committee and Executive Leadership Team, delegating tasks and guiding execution to ensure consistency and quality.

  • Partner with board members and event leads to ensure strong promotion and communication for all major initiatives.

  • Support PR and communications efforts, including announcements, press releases, and community visibility.

  • Consistent, high-quality presence on LinkedIn and other key channels

  • Timely and effective promotion of all programs and initiatives

  • A well-maintained, up-to-date website

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Hands-on marketer who enjoys both strategy and execution

  • Comfortable creating and publishing content on LinkedIn

  • Experience with Canva for light design and asset creation

  • Familiar with managing and updating websites (preferably Squarespace)

  • Strong communicator with attention to detail and follow-through

  • Collaborative, reliable, and excited to support the local tech community

Support Structure

The Director of Marketing will not work alone. This role is supported by the TechRochester Marketing Committee, which assists with content creation, campaign execution, and event promotion.
